What are casters?
2024-04-03
A caster is a wheel that is mounted underneath furniture, equipment or other objects to give them mobility.
The structure of a caster usually includes parts such as wheel straps, brackets, and bearings that are able to roll on the floor to help move furniture or equipment with ease. The main purpose of casters is to facilitate the movement of furniture or equipment while reducing friction between the furniture and the floor, protecting the floor and extending its life. In addition, casters reduce noise when moving and increase comfort of use.
There are various types of casters, including movable casters (also known as universal casters) and fixed casters. Movable casters are constructed to allow 360-degree rotation, while fixed casters have no swivel structure and cannot rotate. These two types of casters are often used in conjunction with each other, for example, carts are usually fitted with fixed casters at the front and movable casters at the rear, near the push handrail.
